“Give Gravel A Go” Ride

Sunday, June 11, 2023
Palgrave, Ontario

Bring your honey, bring a pal or just show up and make new friends – on a scenic, social, skill-building ride for cyclists of all genders in the Caledon Hills.

We’ll meet up shortly before 9:00 a.m., then roll out by 9:15 for a 55 km ride, with an average pace of 20-22 km/h.

Along the way, Ride Captain Rich will share tips and techniques to build your confidence when cycling on gravel and other loose surfaces. Mid-ride, we’ll indulge in some decadent pastries and coffee, then return for a post-ride lunch at the Caledon Hills Brewing Company, enjoying good company and great food. This ride is designed for cyclists who are confident riding for a couple of hours at a time on paved surfaces or mountain bike trails.

The route is best ridden on a gravel or mountain bike, but can be managed on a road bike with 28-32mm tires. Gravel or mountain e-bikes are welcome too.

Presented in cooperation with See What She Can Do – your neighbourhood hub for active women.

Price: $95

Please confirm your reservation by Monday, June 5.

On this ride, we'll swing on and off the Caledon Trailway, cycling through wooded trails & marshland and on quiet country roads. This is a social ride, with regular photo stops and a mid-ride bakery break - all geared toward building skills and confidence on gravel.

While you'll be most comfortable on a gravel bike, you can also join us on a mountain bike (with smoother tires or a higher pressure) or even on a road bike with tires that are 28mm or larger.

Where you'll dine

Our post-ride lunch will take place on the patio of the Caledon Hills Brewing Company.

Located in a converted 19th century church in the heart of the Palgrave, this brew pub offers up traditional German favourites such as schnitzel and bratwurst, as well as modern fusion favourites such as sweet potato tacos and a spicy Asian salad. Of course, there's also a tempting selection of beer, crafted by Master Brewer Stefan Reidelsheimer.
